Do schools kill creativity?

I've had a beef with public education for along time. I've often told people I am not a very good student but in reality I have never actually felt that way. I have always felt that school never teach me in ways that help me learn. By giving me a thick book and multiple choice test at the end of it all I can pretty much guarantee I won't be learning much. But if you give me a problem and allow me to be creative about solving it I'll solve it the most effectively and be top in the class, no problem. I came across this video online and thought it was exactly what I have experienced throughout my education.
